'Star Wars' Events To Prep you Before the 'Force Awakens'
Star Wars may be causing a big stir, for the huge starwars fans and to those who will be converted, here are the events you might want to go before watching the 'Force Awakens'.
- The IMAX at the Indiana State Museum will be the lone area theater showing the movie in the IMAX format's native 15/70mm. What does that mean? When the movie hits the one action sequence that director J.J. Abrams chose to shoot in IMAX, the top and bottom of the picture — which had been black to give the movie its widescreen look — will suddenly fill with even more picture. If you saw "Interstellar" or "The Dark Knight Rises" at the State Museum, you should be familiar with the "whoa" feeling that accompanies that sudden shift.
- • Have a full day to kill and the bladder of a god? The Hamilton 16 IMAX (13825 Norell Road, Noblesville) will be the only theater in the area taking part in the "Star Wars" Marathon, starting at 4 a.m. on Dec. 17. You can see all six films of the Original and Prequel trilogies in chronological order before ending your long day with the first 3D screening of "The Force Awakens." It's sold out, but money does have a habit of talking; check Craigslist to see what you can find.
- The Bloodfin Garrison of the 501st Legion and Mos Espa Base of the Rebel Legion — Indiana's own representatives of a galaxy far, far away — will be on hand at several theaters. You will find them at IMAX at the Indiana State Museum, the Hamilton 16 IMAX, Flix Brewhouse (2206 E. 116th St., Carmel) and Carmike 18 (2490 Futura Park Way, Plainfield) on opening night Thursday. They will appear again at the Carmike 18 on Friday, the Hamilton 16 on Saturday and Flix all weekend.
- • Flat12 Bierwerks (414 Dorman St.) is getting in on this Force business with "Beer Wars," a beer competition running Dec. 16-18. Four themed beers will be tapped to represent the Rebels, while four others will represent the Empire. You can vote not only for your favorite beer but your favorite name as well. (You can also choose to straddle the fence and sample them all with a "Flightsaber.")
